Bart Brentjens challenge; sportive drama for Dolphin team

Eijsden, The Netherlands – The open Dutch and Belgian championships were held together with the famous ‘Bart Brentjens Challenge’ last weekend in the south of The Netherlands. Over 3500 (!) competitors started in this massive field of mountainbikers. The Dolphin team was the favourite for the title with Bart Brentjens and Rudi van Houts. Teammate Tim Wijnants leaded the pack in the first part of the race and then dropped out. Despite being the favourites this was NOT a sportive success for the Dolphin squad. Brentjens flatted several times and with only 20km to go Rudi van Houts had to abandon in leading position after he was unable to continue with problems. The championships were won by Paulissen (Belgium) and Bult (The Netherlands)
50 km/h on a rim!? Can you do that!? Well, the answer is ‘yes you can’. Watch the footage of L1 sport TV as they were filming Brentjens when he punctured for the second time. Brentjens knew it was still 3km until the next tech area and decided to continue on his rim. As he was in anger to get to the front Brentjens was taking over groups of riders without a rear tire and at some points was going 50 km/h…..If anyone had doubts about how strong Dolphin’s Shimano XTR wheels are: check out the TV coverage; they’re super strong and reliable!
